Preventing Child Abuse in Youth Athletics: Thank You to the Community
January 23, 2012
To the Community,
A big hearty THANK YOU to everyone involved with our Town Hall Meeting on Preventing Child Abuse in Youth Athletics…A Call to Action.
The media coverage was unprecedented and special thanks go to ClearChannel Radio, CNY Central, Fox-68, News Channel 9, the Post-Standard, WCNY, and YNN.
Thanks to our moderator, Becky Palmer of B104.7 who has become an advocate for the McMahon/Ryan mission over the past few months.
Thanks also to our expert panelists: Dan Leonard, Male Sex Abuse Survivor, Christine Garvey, Chief Assistant District Attorney, Allison Young, Elmcrest Children’s Center, Ellen Ford, Vera House, Jack Schmidt, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and Tim Donovan, SUNY Youth Sports Institute.
Additionally, thanks to Dr. Debbie Sydow, President, Onondaga Community College and the staff at OCC who provided the venue and technical support, especially Russ Corbin and Tony Vadala.
And finally, thanks to those who attended in person or watched at home and to those who posed questions to our panelists or wrote to us via our website.
A lot of information was conveyed and all the handouts are available below on our website. Now is the time to look within organizations to see what is missing or what needs to change or be updated to prevent abuse. Most importantly, if you recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse, report it…make a call.
Sincerely,
Julie Cecile, Esq.
